About Me:
Hi, I’m Robin. I’m an actor, dad, board gamer, sci-fi & fantasy enthusiast, amateur illustrator and martial artist. This site should be all about my professional work, but my personal passions always have a way of influencing what I do.
I’ve recently relocated to North America with my family, and whilst I’m still open to work in the UK, I’m building my network out here to continue this new exciting stage of my career!
I’m fully legal to work in both the USA and UK.
As a performer I’ve worked in film, TV and theatre for nearly 2 decades now, from tiny venues to blockbuster films. I love it. I trained and specialized in movement and puppetry but I love to play believable characters, just as much as the strange or bizarre creatures I’ve been able to bring to life.
Some recent acting roles I loved:
Playing Jake Hill, a troubled tree surgeon, in the independent feature Catflap: a madcap British horror currently in post. Lots of great scenes, funny and scary, with a very talented cast. Can’t wait for it to be released!
For the BBC, playing villain Bill Tallow in Dr Who Ep4 Season 12, I got to chase the cast around and shoot lightning out of my hands! A great experience with an amazing team.
And in On Your Way I got to experience performing at 100,000 feet (sort of), with a bunch of wire work and VFX integration: waking up in free fall, surrounded by the wreckage of a plane… a really exciting shoot and a beautiful short film. I even got to skydive in Berlin, as a research trip!
My movement background has always been a huge part of my personal and professional life: athletics, martial arts (mainly Ju Jitsu), the wire work in On Your Way, and now exploring the wonderful world of stage combat further. I originally trained in Lecoq based physical theatre, specializing in animal movement, physical comedy and mask. I went on to tour projects internationally, before joining the original West End cast of War Horse in 2009. From here, I took my work with puppets to the UK film industry and founded Performance FX - a team of actors and puppeteers who have become the leading VFX reference performers in the UK.
As a puppeteer in my own right I have had the great honor of working extensively with Neil Scanlan’s teams on the recent Star Wars films, as well as Jurassic World: Forbidden Kingdom and was credited as one of two puppeteers working with the on set team that brought the droid D-0 to life in The Rise of Skywalker.
I’ve also had extensive motion capture experience: as a performer, I had the unique opportunity to R&D new technology over several years with a leading VFX studio. This included exploring many different modes of mocap, and I also helped direct mocap for a sequence on Artemis Fowl.
